Be Connected
UI/UX Design & Research
COVID Tech Connect is a non-profit organization working to supply hospitals and senior care facilities with tablets and a telehealth app called BeConnected to connect COVID-19 patients with their loved ones.
I contracted under Butter Studio to design the UI/UX of the app with a focus on performing accessibility research. Accessibility to elders was a high priority when designing the app because most people in critical condition with COVID-19 are of an older generation. A lot of the work that I did was researching color palettes, type sizes, icon design and layout to guide our design choices. Throughout the design process the research that I did helped us design the app to be as frictionless and digestible as possible to all ages. In addition to it being understandable it was also very important to us that the app was still lighthearted and elicit small moments of joy through color choices and playful illustrations. A lot of medical software feels sterile and we wanted this to feel very personal. The way it works is that patients are given a tablet with the BeConnected app already set up which they use to send a link to their loved ones to join a web based video call.
